How We're Committing to Live Together

Membership Commitments

In view of God’s mercy and grace, and by the power of His Spirit,

WE COMMIT TO THE UNITY OF OUR CHURCH THROUGH

Explanation: Members of CLC commit to believe and not teach in opposition to the doctrines agreed upon in the Statement of Faith.

Relevant Scriptures: Jud. 1:3, 2 Tim 2:2

B) Serving and caring for our members in love.

Explanation: Members of CLC commit to serve and care for the other members through the means the Lord has given them; time, resources, strength, meals, etc.

Relevant Scriptures: Rom. 12:10, 14:19,  Phil. 2:3-4,7, Eph. 4:29, 1 Peter 4:10-11, Gal 6:10, Jn 13:34-35

C) Honoring our leaders as they honor the Lord

Explanation: Members of CLC commit to honor the leaders the Lord has placed in the church through helping them fulfill their task of leading the church towards eternal life with joy; being eager and ready to rally for biblical things. And, should the leaders not honor the Lord, refusing to rally for unbiblical things.

Relevant Scriptures: Heb. 13:17, 2 Cor. 1:24, Gal 6:6, 1 Tim. 5:17

WE COMMIT TO THE MISSION OF OUR CHURCH THROUGH CULTIVATING

A) A Worshipping Culture

Explanation: Members of CLC commit to cultivating a worshipping culture in the church through practicing private worship and attending and participating in the church’s gathered Sunday worship and Lord’s Table.

Relevant Scriptures: Matt. 6:6, Ac. 2:46-47, Heb. 10:24-25

B) A Discipling Culture

Explanation: Members of CLC commit to cultivating a discipling culture through orienting their lives towards one another in encouragement from the Spirit and the scriptures.

C) An Evangelizing Culture

Explanation: Members of CLC commit to cultivating a discipling culture through the regular practice of sharing the gospel and looking for evangelism opportunities in private and group settings; inviting the lost to know Jesus, into their lives, and to the church’s worship.

Relevant Scriptures: Lk. 14:23

WE COMMIT TO THE TESTIMONY OF OUR CHURCH THROUGH

A) Supporting the Church Financially

Explanation: Members of CLC commit to use their financial resources to support the church. Whether that is individual members in need, smaller groups, or the church’s varied expenses from missions, benevolence, pastoral work, support staff, utilities, etc. Rather than a set amount or percentage, members are encouraged to give according to what “they have decided in their heart (2 Cor. 9:7).” Giving is records are recorded for tax purposes and are only viewed by the church treasurer, administrator, and relevant officers (such as the board chair/vice chair).

Relevant Scriptures: 1 Cor. 16:2, 2 Cor. 8:7, 2 Cor. 9:7

B) Living A Worthy Life

Explanation: Members of CLC commit to keeping their conduct honorable to the Lord, saying no to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives. It should be evident to unbelievers that we march to the beat of the Spirit of God, not the spirit of the age.

Relevant Scriptures: Phil. 1:27, Matt. 5:16, 1 Pe. 1:13-19, 2:12, Ti. 2:11-14,

C) Prayerfully and soberly participating in the church’s polity.

Explanation: In CLC’s governance, the buck stops with the congregation. Therefore, it matters greatly to the mission of the church that members commit to prayerfully participate in the church’s polity, praying and thinking about the appointment of leaders, the annual budget, and if necessary, church discipline cases.

Relevant Scriptures: Mat. 18:15-22, 1 Co. 5:12-13, 6:1-11, 1 Tim. 3:1-7, Titus 1:6-9, 1 Peter 5:1-5
